Fundraising Ideas for the Hockey Team

Posted by Southwest Beverages on 8/14/2015

“I can’t believe in six weeks the boy’s hockey season starts,” I thought to myself as I looked out of the car window at the beautiful pink and blue hydrangeas that appeared to be in everyone’s front yard as we drove through Chatham on our way to Nauset Light beach. “I’d better start to think of some fundraising ideas for the team.”

An hour later I called my two son’s-Ryan-13 and Craig-9 to stop body surfing and come out of the water for lunch. While we were enjoying the sandwiches we picked up at JoMama’s this morning on our way to the beach, I said to the boys, “You know hockey season starts in six weeks and I was thinking of some fundraising ideas for the team that I wanted to go over with you. Do you think that Derek LaRoch would be willing to sign a few jerseys and pucks that we could auction off?”

“Who’s Derek LaRoch? Craig asked.

“He’s the most famous person ever to come out of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, that who. He played 6 years for the Blackhawks as their goaltender, winning two Stanley Cups and was the leagues MVP in ‘96.

“That’s a great idea, honey,” my husband, Kent, injected. “I’m sure he’ll do it. He loves Hanley Falls youth hockey. I bet we could even get him to be the goaltender at one of the games and have a fundraiser where people take shots at him.”

“These are great ideas,” Ryan started, “but there’s not going to be enough money for the new uniforms we need.”

“I know, Ryan. That’s why as soon as we’re home I’m going to call Southwest Beverages, you know the company that we used for our fundraiser last year. The company that helped us raise $18,774 for new equipment.”

“Great idea, Mom”, Ryan enthusiastically declared. “They have the best tasting hot cocoa mix in America.”
