“Alex, why don’t you just ask her out,” my friend Owen
stated at our school lunch room table in front of all my friends. “She’s been
checking you out now for the past three days,” he added referring to Anna, a
girl in my biology class who has been smiling at me over the past week at every
chance she had.
“Come on guys, leave me alone,” I replied. “I’m not ready
for this yet, I’m only twelve-years-old.”
“Are you guys going to the youth group social this Friday
night at the Church?” Dan asked. Looking to me he added, “I hear Anna and her
friends will be there.”
Come Friday night my Mom dropped me off at the social where
I joined my friends who were congregated near the refreshment stand.
Minutes later Anna walked into the social and headed towards
the refreshment stand. “Hey, Alex,” she stated giving me a big smile. “Have you
seen any of my friends? We agreed to meet at the refreshment stand at 7 PM.”
“No, Anna, I haven’t seen any of them, but then again your
early. It’s only ten to seven.”
“Say can I get you something to drink while you’re waiting
for your friends?”
“Thanks. That would be nice,” she replied while looking up
at the refreshment stand choices of beverages. “I’ll have a Sippity chocolate
marshmallow diet hot chocolate.”
To make a long story short, Anna and I hit it off great that
night, dancing, laughing and enjoying our diet hot chocolate's together.
