“Eric, any idea what I should get my Uncle Charlie for his
birthday this Thursday,” I asked my best friend as we were walking home from
the dog park with my dog, Ralph. “I want to get him something that he will appreciate
and that I can afford, after all he helped me a lot over the past winter fixing
my car.”
“What does your Uncle do for a living?” Eric asked.
“He’s retired, but has a part time job driving the Zamboni
machine at the Lake Grove Ice Rink.” No sooner than I told Eric about my Uncles
part time job then the thought of a gift occurred to me. “That’s it,” I called
out as I snapped my figures and stated, “I’ll get him a box of Sippity gourmet
hot chocolate mix. He drinks Sippity chocolate marshmallow flavored hot
chocolate all winter. He absolutely loves the stuff.”
Two hours later I was in my kitchen watching my Mom prepare
dinner. “You know it’s your Uncle Charlies 70th birthday this
Thursday, she stated. “I’m planning a little get together for dinner. Will you
be around?”
“Of course, Mom. I wouldn’t miss Uncle Charlies birthday for
the world,” I passionately stated. “I even got him a present.”
“What did you get him?”
“Well you know how much he loves Sippity gourmet chocolate
marshmallow hot chocolate. Well I thought seeing that he drives the Zamboni all
summer for five hours a day, that he could use something to warm him up when he
comes off the ice. So I got him a box of Sippity chocolate marshmallow gourmet
hot chocolate mix.”
“What a great, and thoughtful, idea,” my Mom stated as she
removed the pot of boiling water containing six ears of corn and carried it to
the sink. “That should get him in the zone”.
“What do you mean, the zone, Mom?”
“I thought in hockey, you have to get in the red zone to
score.”
“No, Mom. There is no red zone in hockey. Your confusing it
with the red zone in football, which is the 20 yards before the goal line.”
“Either way, your Uncle will very much appreciate your
gourmet hot chocolate mix gift.”
