“You need to relax, Paul,” my partner of eighteen years told
me as we were leaving the board room of Horizon Technology. “Everyone in this
company doesn’t have the knowledge nor the drive that you have, Larry.”
“I know, Paul, but the window of opportunity for us to
capitalize on our competitive advantage is closing, so if I don’t impress upon
the staff a sense of urgency our sales will take a big hit this year.”
“Oh, you've impressed the sense of urgency on them Larry, perhaps
too much. You need to learn to relax. Let’s get some coffee.”
Five minutes later Paul handed me a container of coffee. “Boy,
Paul, this is delicious coffee.”
“I thought you would like it. It’s Kemosabe chocolate
hazelnut caffeine free coffee.”
“Caffeine free?”
“Yeah, I though you could use some calmness in your day
after that meeting.”
Taking a long sip of my chocolate hazelnut caffeine free
coffee, I replied, “Well, Paul as you know we together have built this company
to what it is today. I’m not going to miss out on this wonderful opportunity because
the staff lacks a sense of urgency to get the project completed in a timely
manner.”
“Larry, there you go again, getting all excited. Remember
what you doctor said, learn to operate on your time. If it will make you relax,
I’ll have a follow up meeting with the staff in two days and reiterate the need
to get this project done in a timely matter. You just relax and enjoy your new
found friend, Kemosabe caffeine free coffee. Did you know that Kemosabe means, ‘Trusted

“I didn’t know that. I guess I better start calling you
Kemosabe from now on.”
