So today is Saturday and I have nothing planned, or that was
until my neighbor Trevor came around at 10 AM and asked me to help him haul 1-inch
gravel with him so that he could complete the curtain drain he was installing
around his house before the monsoon rains began. I must admit the last thing I
wanted to do was haul gravel in ninety-five-degree heat with oppressive humidity.
However, I didn’t even hesitate to say yes to Trevor’s request as he has helped
me on many occasions over the years with numerous projects around my house. It
was payback time.
Shortly before noon, Trevor’s wife, Annie, came out to the
side yard where Trevor and I were filling our wheelbarrows with gravel holding
a tray containing two mason jars of iced chocolate peppermint hot chocolate. “I
thought you guys could use a break about now,” she stated as she took one of
the jars of iced chocolate peppermint hot chocolate from the tray and handed it
to me. “It’s iced chocolate peppermint hot chocolate,” she added.
“Boy does that ever sound refreshing,” I replied, taking a
long swallow from the jar. “You know, Annie, I have had peppermint hot chocolate
many times in the winter, particularly around Christmas, but I never have had
iced chocolate peppermint hot chocolate.”
“I hope you’re enjoying it?” Annie asked.
“It’s absolutely delicious. And so refreshing.”
“This hit the spot, honey,” Trevor inserted as he stood next
to his half full wheelbarrow of gravel holding his jar of iced peppermint hot
chocolate in his hand. “Well, let’s not make this break too long,” Trevor
stated as he looked to me. “I’m in the groove hauling this gravel and don’t
want to stop.”
“Take it easy, Trevor, Annie, stated as she looked to her
husband. “Paul is here doing you a favor so let’s not push too hard.
“It’s OK, Annie, I’m used to working hard. Besides, I now
have my second wind after enjoying this delicious iced chocolate peppermint hot
chocolate,” I stated handing the empty mason jar back to Annie.
