“Hi Emily,” I said to my girlfriend over the phone shortly
after I had ordered a Sippity iced chocolate raspberry hot chocolate at the
Bake My Day Café during my morning break. “We need to meet and talk about
things,” I added, referring to the fact that our relationship of nearly two
years had rapidly deteriorated over the past two weeks.
“That sounds like a good idea, Ryan. Where do you want to meet?”
“How about Nick’s? It the bar & grill on Lowell.”
“I know the place.”
“Say six?”
“I’ll see you then.”
After I had hung up with Emily, I wish I had taken more time
to talk to her rather than simply calling her to set up a time to meet while I
was standing in line waiting for my container of iced chocolate raspberry hot
chocolate. How cold of me. What was I thinking, I thought as I picked up my
container of iced raspberry hot chocolate and made my way to the outdoor seating
area. I needed to think quietly for ten minutes before I returned to work about
Emily and where our relationship was headed.
“I had sensed you were calling me from here,” Emily stated
as she surprised me and took the seat next to me on the patio of the Bake My
Day Café. “Ryan, I couldn’t wait until tonight to see you,” she began as she reached
for my container of Sippity iced chocolate raspberry hot chocolate. “You’re the
best thing that has ever come into my life and you will be the best thing that
will ever come into my life,” she passionately stated, looking me directly in
my eyes and then taking a drink of my iced raspberry hot chocolate.
“Emily, I’m so glad you came here now and told me this. I
have always loved you and will always give you my unconditional love.”
“Ryan,” Emily stated then picked up the container of iced
chocolate raspberry hot chocolate and took a sip. “My unconditional love has
one condition.”
“What’s that? I curiously asked hoping that it was not going
to be some condition that was beyond my expectations.
“That you tell me the name of this iced chocolate raspberry
hot chocolate,” she jokingly stated holding up the container of iced chocolate
raspberry hot chocolate in my direction with a big smile on her face.
“It’s Sippity,” I whispered in her ear as I gave her a big
hug.
