“Dad, do you think you could buy me a new bike?” I asked my
Dad who was in the garage sharpening his axe.
“Why do you need a new bike?” He replied without looking up
from grinding the axe blade.
“Because I’ve out grown it since I got it for my seventh
birthday. I’m almost ten.”
I guess I must have gotten my Dad’s attention because he immediately
stopped grinding his axe, looked up at me, took off his safety glasses and
said, “You know, Teddy, it’s about time that you got a job to pay for things
like a new bike.”
“But Dad what can I do? I’m only ten.”
“I remember when I was your age and had a paperboy job. I
remember getting up early every day and delivering newspapers to houses in the
neighborhood. I would put the papers in my Mom’s shopping cart and deliver
them.”
“But Dad, no one reads the paper anymore.”
“I know, son, that’s one of the problems with people today.
They don’t read the paper,” he sarcastically replied.
“Well what can I do to earn money?”
“You’ll think of something.”

“With the fourth pick of the 2016 NFL draft the Dallas
Cowboys select Exekiel Elliott, running back, Ohio State,” the commissioner of
the NFL, Roger Goodell, stated to the audience assembled at the Auditorium
Theatre in Chicago.
“Boy am I glad this pick is behind us,” I stated to the Vice
President of Player Personal of the Cowboys after I had taken a sip of my mocha
flavored coffee.
“That’s for sure, Franky. Now we have the best backfield in
football,” he stated with joy and excitement. “What’s that coffee your
drinking?” he asked.
“It’s Kemosabe mocha flavored coffee.”
“Where can I get some?”
“I have several single serve packets in my briefcase. I’ll
get one for you.”
Five minutes later I returned to our “War Room”, a room at Valley
Ranch set aside for the Owner, his family, the Coach, the General Manager, the
Vice President of Player Personal and the scouts. The air in the room on draft
day is so tense you could cut the air with a knife. “Here’s your mocha flavored
coffee, Ronnie,” I stated as I handed him the container.
Before he could say thank you, the Coach called out, “I
smell some delicious mocha flavored coffee.”

Judge Wilson set 9:30 AM today for a pre-trail hearing in
his court room to hear arguments as to whether or not a bloody blouse worn by
the deceased should be presented as evidence by the prosecutor.
When the judge entered the court room he immediately smelled
the aroma radiating from the prosecutor’s container of coffee. “What kind of
coffee is that?” he asked, Miss Jackson, the prosecutor.
“It’s chocolate hazelnut Kemosabe gourmet coffee, sir.”
“And where can we get some of this chocolate hazelnut
Kemosabe gourmet coffee,” he curiously replied in a sarcastic tone.
“At the Best Grounds Café across the street,” Miss Jackson nervously
answered.
“Well then, Miss Jackson, you know I do not permit coffee in
my court room,” he firmly stated in an authoritative tone.
“No, sir, I didn’t realize that.”

Everything we do at Southwest Beverages translates into the

There are, however, two basic differences
between our Sippity hot cocoa mix and the other leading premium quality hot
cocoa mix brands.

“You know, Zoey, our break time has been rather boring
lately,” my co-worker said to me when I meet her in the break room at 3 PM. “It
seems the only subjects we seem to discuss are work, sex, politics and the NFL,”
she added. “Isn’t there any “juicy” gossip in this place anymore?”
“No, Audrey, this place is rather boring. If it weren’t for
the fact that I worked for a great guy and get paid well, I’d leave.”
“And the coffee here is terrible!” Audrey proclaimed,
dumping the container of coffee she had just made into the sink.
“Look, Audrey, there is no need for you to get hostile,” I
firmly stated. “Why don’t you take a seat over there and I’ll make you a
container of chocolate cinnamon flavored coffee. Do you like chocolate cinnamon
coffee? I asked as I took two chocolate cinnamon coffee packets from my nurse’s
jacket.
“I don’t know I never had chocolate cinnamon coffee. Is it
good?”
“It’s better than good,” I answered as I poured the contents
of each single serve coffee packet into our containers. “It’s excellent.”
“Wow! This coffee is amazing,” Audrey stated with excitement
as she returned the container to the table after taking a sip. “Where did you
get it?”

All week you have been thinking about planting your garden,
after all it has been a long winter and a rather wet spring so far and the
forecast for this weekend is for seventy-degree weather, low humidity and clear
blue skies. Perfect conditions to go to your local nursery or home improvement
center and pick out your annuals for the garden.
The rays from a warm spring sun greet you as you step out of
your house to walk your garden one last time before you go to the nursery and
select your annuals. You’re feeling good and excited about the day to come. Before
you head to the nursery your wife suggest she make two containers of your
favorite Kemosabe iced instant hazelnut coffee. Anxious to get the morning
started you complain that the coffee will take too long to make. She then tells
you the coffee is instant and it will be ready in less than two-minutes. You
accept her time frame because you know how much you enjoy iced instant hazelnut coffee.
Five minutes later you’re in the car any on your way to the
nursey, happy you decided to wait while your wife make the two containers of
iced instant hazelnut coffee. With spring in the air and the anticipation of
planting the garden each sip of the iced coffee tasted heavenly.

“Yo Cyrus, you’re now the big man on campus,” I call out to
my best friend Cyrus Almonte when I first saw him the day after he was drafted
in the first round of the NFL draft by the New York Giants. Cyrus was a 6’ 5’
285 lbs. offensive tackle that played for our school, Penn State University. He
was All-American this past year and won the Lombardi award as the best lineman
in America. “You’re going to the show, Cyrus,” I added, as I approached him to
hug him. “You’re going to play for the New York Giants-The New York Giants! It’s
time now for you to turn it up. Way up. My man!”
“Let me get this, Jalen,” Cyrus stated as he handed the student
union food court cashier a “Tub” for two containers of Sippity iced chocolate
raspberry hot chocolate. By “Tub” Cyrus was referring to the slang word now
associated with the image of Harriet Tubman who will be appearing on the face
of the new twenty-dollar bill. “I don’t ever want our relationship to change,
Jalen. You know why I bought these two containers of Iced chocolate raspberry
hot chocolate?”

“Just once, Cindy, I wish some company would make a diet hot
chocolate that is both good tasting and healthy,” my girlfriend stated to me as
we were looking over the menu at the Friendly Bean Café. “it’s been a long day and all that I want is a
refreshing container of iced diet hot chocolate,” I added, referring to the fact
that Cindy and I were clothes shopping for the past five hours and we both were
tired and thirsty.
“Well today must be your lucky day, Karen. Not only did you
find that beautiful Michael Kors jacket, but they serve Sippity hot chocolate here.”
“Do you think they have diet hot chocolate?”
“I don’t know but we’ll find out in a minute because that
cute waiter is headed towards our table,” Cindy stated in anticipation of
meeting the waiter.
“Hi, I’m Jason and I’ll be your server today,” he stated in
a friendly tone as he smiled at me.
Now this is guy I wish I could bring home to me my parents I
thought to myself as Karen asked, “I see that you sell Sippity hot chocolate,
but do you have diet hot chocolate?”

“Hey, Picasso, let’s take a coffee break,” I called out to
my partner, Vinny Macchiaroli, who was atop a forty-foot ladder painting the second
story flear-d-lis trim details of a victorian house we were painting. Years
ago, I had given Vinny the nickname “Picasso” when he first started painting
the finer details on the interior and exterior of houses.
“I’ll be down in a few minutes. I just need to finish this section,”
he mumbled back with one small paint bush between his teeth and an angled brush
in his right hand that he had just dipped in the gallon of white paint that was
suspended from the ladder.
“You know, Picasso, this is what I will always remember
about you. How meticulous you are in your attention to details.”
“I hope you remember me for the thermos of Kemosabe gourmet
flavored coffee I brought you every morning for the past twenty-two years,”
Picasso called back as he started to paint the last flear-d-lis panel. “You
sure drink enough of it,” he added.
“That I do, Picasso. To be honest after all these years I
still don’t know which flavored coffee I like best-mocha, chocolate cinnamon,
chocolate hazelnut, crème butterscotch, French vanilla or chocolate irish
cream.”

For the past two summers millennials have flocked to coffee
shops across America to order gourmet flavored iced hot chocolate. While they
have come to realize that iced hot chocolate is a very refreshing beverage,
more important they wish to distance themselves from their parents Starbuck’s
coffee generation and claim iced hot chocolate as the beverage of their
generation.
Millennials are drinking on average 2.2 16 ounce containers
of iced hot chocolate a day. They usually enjoy one iced hot chocolate
container first thing in the morning, be it at work or at home. In mid-afternoon
on workdays they enjoy their second container of ice hot chocolate. Millennials
are purchasing iced hot chocolate in a variety of gourmet flavors-chocolate
raspberry, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate peppermint, chocolate strawberry and yes,
pumpkin spice, despite the stigma that most people only drink pumpkin spice hot
chocolate in the fall. While millennials grew up drinking chocolate and
marshmallow flavored hot chocolate, few now drink marshmallow iced hot
chocolate and even less drink plain chocolate iced hot chocolate.

“It’s nice to be home, Mom,” I stated to my mother referring
to the fact that I was home from college for a few days to attend my brother’s
wedding.
“It’s always nice for you to come home, Teddy. Your Mama
misses you.”
“Boy is this the best tasting instant coffee I think I ever had,”
I stated to my Mom after I had taken a sip from the mug of coffee she had
handed me a moment earlier. “What is it?”
“It’s Kemosabe gourmet flavored chocolate hazelnut coffee and yes, I agree with
you it’s perhaps the best tasting instant coffee I think I also have ever had.”
“How did you fine it?” I asked, as I took another sip of
coffee and made my way towards the crumb cake box that was sitting next to the
toaster.
“One of the doctors in the office discovered it about three
weeks ago and decided to put a box in the waiting room for the patients.”
“I bet the patients love it?”

prepared.
“I thought you would enjoy it, Roy. It’s your favorite flavor,
chocolate cinnamon.”
“Do you believe the weather today?” I asked, referring to
the unusually warm mid-April almost eighty-five degree weather we were
experiencing at our home in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. “Perfect day to spread
out the mulch in the gardens,” I added after I took a sip of my iced cinnamon
hot chocolate.

Today when I left for school my Mommy was sad. Every morning
she starts her day by brewing a pot of coffee and making my lunch. Today her
coffee pot broke and I know she does not have money to buy a new one because
last week she told me I would “have to wait” to get new sneakers. The whole way
on the bus to the Rosewood Elementary School I couldn’t stop thinking about my
Mom and how I could help her. Suddenly an idea came to mind.
“Mikey, Joey, Craig I need your help,” I stated as we sat at
our assigned seats in the school cafeteria.
“What’s the matter? Joey asked.
After I told them about my Mom's broken coffee pot I asked
each of them if they would give me their milk money so I could buy my Mom some
coffee. Not only did each of them give me their milk money, but they began to
ask our other 4th grade classmates. That day I collected $6.35.
While I appreciated their contributions I need at least another $5.00 to get my
Mom a box of Kemosabe gourmet flavored instant coffee.

As a sales representative for a major medical drug
manufacturer I travel a lot for my job and as a result I stay, on average, two
to three nights a week in hotels. For the first couple months of my job I found
it difficult to get into any kind of routine. I was away from my family, alone,
my healthy lifestyle was severally curtailed to bland salads and “junk food”
and the hotel offering of in-room coffee was, let’s be kind and just say, “limited”.
While I continued to miss my family and learned how to occupy
my idol time on the road, the coffee situation continued to annoy me because it
broke my morning routine of enjoying a good cup of coffee while I was getting
dressed. That was until I spent two days in Tucson, Arizona and discovered Kemosabe
gourmet flavored coffee at a local grocery store. What first attracted me to
this coffee was the aroma that radiated from each of the flavored boxes-mocha,
chocolate hazelnut, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate irish cream, French vanilla
and crème butterscotch. Upon further examination I was pleasantly surprised to
learn that each box contained twelve single serve coffee packets. “Perfect,” I
thought for travel needs. Before I could flip the box and read the ingredients,
a woman, pushing her grocery cart, approached and reached by me for a box of crème
butterscotch.

“You need to relax, Paul,” my partner of eighteen years told
me as we were leaving the board room of Horizon Technology. “Everyone in this
company doesn’t have the knowledge nor the drive that you have, Larry.”
“I know, Paul, but the window of opportunity for us to
capitalize on our competitive advantage is closing, so if I don’t impress upon
the staff a sense of urgency our sales will take a big hit this year.”
“Oh, you've impressed the sense of urgency on them Larry, perhaps
too much. You need to learn to relax. Let’s get some coffee.”
Five minutes later Paul handed me a container of coffee. “Boy,
Paul, this is delicious coffee.”
“I thought you would like it. It’s Kemosabe chocolate
hazelnut caffeine free coffee.”
“Caffeine free?”
“Yeah, I though you could use some calmness in your day
after that meeting.”

“I’ll be with you in a minute,” my wife Nora called out from
the kitchen where she was just finishing preparing two 20-ounce thermos of
Kemosabe mocha flavored coffee.
“Come on,” I called back. “I can’t keep being late for work.
Mr. Larson is getting annoyed that we’re all coming in late,” I added, referring
to the fact that the owner of HRD Tire Care, Mr. Lawson, told us just yesterday
that work starts at 7:00 AM, not 7:10 AM.
“One minute, Dylan!” Nora called back. “Do you want your
mocha flavored coffee or not?” she whispered as she was tightening the lids of
the thermos.
Five minutes later Nora and I were in our car, enjoying our
mocha flavored coffee and on our way to work. Suddenly as we were approaching the
intersection of Lakeland and 47th Street, a bird hit our windshield,
forcing Nora to have a jerk reaction spilling some of her mocha flavored
coffee. “Oh my goodness,” I called out. “That small sparrow that is hobbling
across the intersection just hit our car.”
“What are we going to do, honey?”

“New coffee?” Abigail asked, referring to the Kemosabe diet
coffee I brought to our weekly weight watchers meeting. “This chocolate
cinnamon coffee is delicious,” she added.
“A friend of mine at work gave me a single serve coffee
packet of chocolate hazelnut last week and I instantly fell in love with it,” I
replied. “It only has 41 calories, 17 fat calories and contains less than one
gram of sugar per serving. In addition, Abigail, it is 100 % gluten free.”
“Wow! For a diet coffee to taste this good and have less
than one-gram of sugar is amazing.”
“And you know what is really amazing, Abby, it comes in six
delicious flavors-mocha, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate
irish cream, French vanilla and crème butterscotch.”
“Ohm, I bet the crème butterscotch is delicious,” Abby
stated with excitement.
“It is.” Reaching into the fifty box of Kemosabe diet coffee
I brought to the meeting I pulled out a crème butterscotch packet and extended it
to Abigail, “Here, why don’t you take this crème butterscotch diet coffee packet
home with you and let me know how you like it.”
“Thanks, Lucy, I’ll let you know.”

“May I help you find something, sir?” the sales
representative of Office Depot asked as I was taking a sip from my 16-ounce
container of Kemosabe chocolate irish cream gluten free coffee.
“Actually, yes you can. I’m looking to buy a basic printer
for my home computer.”
“Well we have a broad selection to choose from,” he replied.
“May I ask what’s your budget?”
“The one to two-hundred-dollar range, but more important
than price is I want a printer that is not going to require me to buy expensive
cartridges every month,” I replied, swiveling the container of irish cream
coffee in my hand.
“Boy that coffee sure smells good. May I ask what kind it
is?”
“It’s Kemosabe chocolate irish cream.”
“I wish I could enjoy flavored coffee like that,”
“Why can’t you?”
“I have a gluten tolerance condition, which requires me to
drink only gluten free coffee and to be honest all the flavored coffees I have
tried that are gluten free are terrible.”

Today I decided to go to the park and relax then go food shopping,
after all it was a glorious spring day, and I had worked hard all week. The
fact that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the forecast was for the temperature
to soar to the low seventies made this a rare day living in Idaho Falls. By 9:30
AM I was dressed and ready to go to Central Park on Holmes Street not too far
from where I lived on Cleveland Street. My first stop was the Penny Lane Café where
I purchased a twenty-ounce container of my favorite flavored coffee, Kemosabe
chocolate hazelnut. While I already had a spring “bounce” in my step, the aroma
radiating from my container of chocolate hazelnut flavored coffee elevated my ‘bounce”.

So today started out like any other cold morning in
Littleton, Colorado, I made a six-teen ounce thermos of Sippity chocolate marshmallow
hot chocolate, grabbed my coat, got in my car and headed for work. Every
morning when I’m driving out of my neighborhood I turn left. On this particular
morning when I was exiting my neighborhood I stopped at the stop sign, took a
sip of my Sippity chocolate marshmallow hot chocolate, looked right, saw no
traffic to the point where the road turned, about 200 yards, then made a left
turn and proceeded to make my way towards the light at the end of the street.
Suddenly this “lady” in a gray pick-up comes roaring up
behind my car to the point where her truck was almost touching my cars bumper. Taking
another sip of my marshmallow hot chocolate I then said to my wife, “Why do
people insist on driving right on your tail, particularly when they can clearly
see that the light ahead is red and they have to slow down.”

“Play Ball!” the umpire called out signaling the start of the
baseball season for the Yankees and Astros on opening day at Yankee Stadium. As
soon as the Yankees announced tickets sales for the upcoming season, my
brother, Sal, purchased two tickets for opening day. It has been a time honored
traditional in the Cambazzi family to attend opening day at Yankee Stadium. Our
grandfather started the tradition back in 1937 and our father continued the
tradition until he passed in 1993 and now Sal and I are continuing the
tradition.
Throughout the cold, dreary New York winter, Sal and I would
talk about the upcoming season for the Yankees and how we enjoyed sitting in
the sun at Yankee Stadium on opening day. It signaled the arrival of spring. So
much for that dream. Today when we woke up it was thirteen degrees with a wind
chill of 20 mph. Nevertheless, Sal and I bundled up and headed for the Stadium.
The first thirty minutes of being inside the Stadium was exciting-the players were
taking batting practice, fielding ground balls, playing catch, the grass was
green and excitement was in the air.

“You know, Michelle, graduation night is a little over eight
weeks away and at last count we were about $8,615 short of our budget to fund
the entire senior graduation party event,” I stated to my fundraising co-chair.
“Well, Abby, at this point in time we can do one of three
things. We can spread the unfunded cost of the event out between the senior
attending the event; we can reduce or eliminate some of the events at the party
or we can raise the additional money through various fundraising events.”
“I don’t think we can ask the seniors to pay,
what, let me quickly do the math, $43.03 each, after all, they already raised through
various fundraising events $14,400. So, let’ put our heads together and come up
with fundraising ideas that we can quickly assemble so that in four weeks we
will know if we can fully fund the graduation party.

“I’ll tell you, Monica, it sure is cold out tonight,” my
husband, Kurt, stated after he returned home from a boy scout meeting with our
son, Roger on a cold, 13-degree, night in early April. “Roger and I are
freezing,” he added. “Do you have any of that Sippity chocolate marshmallow hot
cocoa mix left?”
“Actually, I do,” I replied, as I started to walk towards my
kitchen pantry. “Here it is,” I stated aloud as I reached in and pulled the box
of Sippity chocolate marshmallow mix from the pantry.
“Oh, good, Mom,” Roger stated with enthusiasm. “I’ll be down
in five minutes. I’m going to put on my PJ’s.”
“Perfect, Roger. Your chocolate marshmallow hot cocoa should
be ready by then.”
For the next five minutes Kurt filled me in on the subjects
discussed at the boy scouts meeting, while I prepared the chocolate marshmallow
hot cocoa. The big issue was should the troop continue as planned with its overnight
camping trip this weekend since the rather unusual cold spell we are currently
experiencing is forecasted to continue into early next week. Living in Englewood’s
Cliffs, New Jersey it is exceptionally rare that we get a cold spell this late in
the early spring, let alone two snow storms in the past week. “So, Kurt, what
did the troop decide? Are you going on the overnight this weekend?”

“Wow! Now that sounds delicious,” I replied. “Whatever made

“Nice to see you again, Robert,” the receptionist replied. “Dwayne

Knowing from past experience I knew fair well to ask what
kind of coffee since Fresche’s takes great pride in serving its customers only

replied, as I headed towards a seat in the reception area.
“Do you like flavored gourmet coffee?
“Yes, that sounds lovely. What flavors do you have?”
“Well, Robert,” the receptionist began, “We just started

chocolate hazelnut, chocolate irish cream, French vanilla and crème butterscotch.”

“Hi Amber, just calling to say hello and find out what you’re

me last night.

working on an assignment our philosophy teacher gave us this afternoon.”
“What’s the assignment?”
“He wants us to ignite our imaginations by preparing a logo

“Boy am I glad I graduated last year and don’t have to deal

You wake up and hop on the scale you have in your bathroom
before you take your shower. The scale reads, “155” and you look up and into
the mirror. “This is no April Fool joke,” your whisper, taking note of your 5
foot 3 inch, 29-year-old, flabby, out-of-shape body. During the course of
taking your shower you conclude that you are going to make a conscious effort
to eat healthier and work out.
A half hour later you’re in your car and headed to work.
Without thinking you signal to turn into the take out lane of Sufficient
Grounds Coffee Shop, the place you have been buying a twenty-ounce caramelized
honey latte for the past four years. Just before you join the end of the car line,
the image of you standing on the scale this morning pops into your head.
Immediately, you steer left avoiding the car line and back onto the road. As
you drive towards work you make a mental note to stop at the grocery store on
the way home tonight to get some coffee and healthy food.
